Birch Backs Blackwell

New Sheffield United Chief Executive Trevor Birch has reassured Kevin Blackwell of his role at Bramall Lane.

Amidst speculation as to Blackwell's future, the new man at the Lane believes the manager has been 'unlucky' this season, and doesn't have to worry about departing the club.

In an interview with the Daily Express, Birch also mentions the Blades could have big plans come January.

'I rate Kevin as a manager very highly.'.

'We've worked together before and I know him to be an extremely hard worker and well organised.

'He was extremely unlucky at Leeds, and also here with injuries.

'He has not got the tools he needs in terms of player fitness, but I'm sure he will sort things out.

'Kevin, the chairman Kevin McCabe and I will be planning a strategy for what we can do in January.'

see cotts has now gone and many more left to depart shortly. with the current injuries we have i can't believe blamewell has let cotts leave. we have got a waffer thin squad as it is without getting rid of players now. we need players (squad players) to call upon and when asked to come in a do a job. its not just about a team off 11 players but about a squad of players that is going to see us through the whole season. blamewell isn't thinking and nothing suprises me with him. hendo to burnley or hull, boro arer looking at quinn, killa is a cert to leave in january, and heard on the grape vine today that ipswich are going to make a january bid for evans... add these players to the loan players we currently have that will want to jump ship when their deals end and we will be struggling to name a starting 11 capable of midtable!! i predicted this at the end of last season and if blamewell doesn't go soon and someone doesn't come in to sort things out it's going to get much worse.

Sorry to see cotts go but, Quinn to boro would be a result! I would drive him there myself gladly!

McCabe's business model has collapsed, SUFC are skint, Birch has been brought in to try and flog the club meanwhile we'll sell off whatever assets we have left and McCabe is leaving Blackwell to take the flack. When will everyone face the facts??????

here here the bad feeling between the fans and the club was huge on saturday, hald of the people there couldn't give a toss anymore and are only there because they got suckered into purchasing season tickets before the big stage disaster part 7 occured!!
bladesforlife1889
interesting how cotts has described things at the lane.... he mentioned broken promises, lack of team spirt, and no direction!! ***** sake we are falling apart in 3-4 months.
bladesforlife1889
the cotterill sale disappoints me as ive said many times before he never got a real run in the side - and by that i mean 10 full games - but KB obviously didint trust him in the team..there is an awful atmosphere between the fans and the club, evidence by the fact no atmosphere, basically just season ticket holders at the ground and poor away support...For me the main things that have happened are a) poor cheap appointment in KB who was basically put into place to get rid of players and keep the team half decent and b) the club is struggling financiallyand wont coomunicate this to fans and c) the cheap sell offs of beattie and the two kyle's (why not hold onto walker and then sell him end of this season??? to get £1m for him wasnt worth it) plus other good players replaced by inadequate players howard, evans (although i maintain we arent playing to his strengths and i thought he looked better on sat) and the loan signings whose hearts arent in it (halford, spring, harper, treacy et al) has left fans (majority i think) not really feeling anything for the club at the present time - we all love them and always will, but we see good local talent sold off, good players (sun ji!) not played and given away and being taken for mugs by a manager who claims every week that we are unlucky or couldnt ask any more from players (doncaster at home!!) and a board that trip out the same old comments (look where we were ten years ago)...i like mccabe adn think hes been great but he and birch need to seriously act fast to get some positivity back in the club cos we've just pretty much had three years of negativity (relegation, warnock / robson change, KB negative football adn then this season...) we do need a new manager because fans generally are apathetic towards him adn dont want him and the moment we lose a game or two everyone will be on his back, and we need a team that does have spirit (this one doesnt imo) and gets back to waht we all want, a team that scraps and fights for every ball, and we need the majority of players to be ours, not blackburns!

I don't want to go on a rant of BFL's proportions but what the **** are we thinking about letting Cotterill go out on loan. He's one of the few wingers we actually own!!! I wouldn't be surprised if this is down to Blackwell falling out with Cotts. If we get some injuries in the next few weeks we're gonna be screwed. And what are we gonna do when all these loan wingers go back? It's the same sort of situation as Sharp. Blackwell let him go out on loan and then complained a month later that he didn't have any fit strikers available. If we keep Blackwell in charge much longer we're gonna end up with a squad of average loan players that are being instructed by a tactically naive, s**t manager!!
Blade1889
at last people are seeing where im coming from and what i have been saying for the last 3 months - just to make you all happy west brom want ward and we are willing to accept theie first bid of 1.5m as it bridges then gap we have lossed on the sale of cotts - ******** pathetic but perdictable!!
bladesforlife1889
Say what you want about Cotterill's departure, but there's no coincidence with the location that he's moved. There's a lot more to it than just the superficial fact of him not playing.
shepsblade
the fact that the manager is crap, he isn't playing, tactics are shocking, no money for new players, bad atmosphere in the dressing room, players unhappy with the current running and managing of the team + christ where does it end sheps?
