Blades Set To Land Premiership Defender

Sheffield United are set to make their second swoop of the day with a defender on loan from the Premier League.

The identity is yet to be confirmed, but Vital Sheff Utd believes it could be either Toni Kallio or Chris Smalling from Fulham.

With Andrew Davies returning to Stoke City before Christmas, and Matt Kilgallon's long-term future in the balance, the centre of defence is a key concern for Kevin Blackwell.

who??? by the way killa has gone to newcastle will be confirmed today!! blackwell, mccabe get them all out
bladesforlife1889
Who? One's an upcoming youngster who I guarantee will be big, the other has nearly 50 caps for his country. You need to start watching some football lad.
shepsblade
We got the old one who is 6ft4 and nicknamed the Bonecrusher, should do well with Morgs.
coachkev
what wages do you think they are on?? bet they are on more than what killa wants now.
bladesforlife1889
I dont watch fulham reserves, so I have never heard of the bloke either.
100% BLADE
50 international caps, you only need to watch international football, not prem reserves! He's only here as cover anyway.
gloucblade
lets not try and big this up sheps, its small minded yet again by the club.
bladesforlife1889
Yeh just like Ward was small minded, don't want to let him go now though do we. Give the bloke a chance before writing him off.
coachkev
Sorry glouc, its many years ago since the last finland match I watched. It was probably just after kegan resigned, I think peter taylor was caretaker, must be 9 years ago. I have to agree with coachkev, I will give them both a chance, they dont have to have big names to be good players for us.
100% BLADE
course we will give them a chance... but hardly exciting signings and nothing else will come come january.. just like last season. we are a selling club now. but.. in the black apparently???? don't get it!!
bladesforlife1889
As coachkev says, many on this site rubbished the signing of Jamie Ward - do you want me to quote your words, BFL? I made a note at the time - now he's wonder boy. So lets not condem them before we at least see them play. And regarding the clubs finances, OF COURSE you dont get it, BFL!
gloucblade
ward is wonder boy? hardly glouc. he made the step up with ease, and looks a very good player especially for his age - still got a lot of developing to do and yes a bargin buy. is he going to score us 20 goals a season - no. is he going to be a real threat like beattie? - no... players obviouslly have moves in their career and ward looks too good for us in terms of the future. we paid 300k for him and would sell tomorrow for 1m if that bid came in... fact is with age and experience he will probably be a 6m player in 3 years time and some other club NOT US will make a massive profit on him.
bladesforlife1889
he won't ever be a prolific goal scorer.... but he will give us an outlet a create loads of goals (bit like a ryan giggs) but not half as good. watson, bouazza, mcsheffery, beckford, wood, elliot ward, my old friend 5hittu, croft... all would have cost us peanuts at the start of the season and with these players we would be in the top 2 with the current squad we currently have. we would be looking at a nailed on promotion + with the financial figures doccumented recently (with no west sham) money included may i add we could have done this and achieved this.....massive question is WHY DIDN'T WE??? this has always been our downfalland reason why we always fail to achieve misserably....look at forest with the loan signing of shorey!!! ambitious... but we dont think like this. the player mentioned earlier would have been heavily reduced in terms of fees, competative wages but not club threatening, and are all impact players.
bladesforlife1889
Its not my view that he is wonder boy, just reflecting the general opinion on this page and reminding you that you slagged him off before you had seen him play.
gloucblade
i didn't slag him off... what i did say is that you can't replace a 4m striker in beattie that will get you 25 goals a season with a young lad from league 2 at 300k. i was furious when beattie was flogged and replaced with ward...still am to be honnest. wardy is a good young player but he will never score 20 goals a season in the championship. that's the difference and a big one too.
