'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Where There's A "Will" There's A Way

After an injury hampered start to his Sheffield United career, midfielder Lee Williamson appears to be settling in well on his return to South Yorkshire.

The former Rotherham man, who signed in the summer from Watford, was out of action after just 45 minutes of the Blades first pre-season friendly in Malta, but since regaining full fitness, and then overcoming a hamstring problem, Williamson has become an integral part of Kevin Blackwell's ever changing midfield at Bramall Lane, and even managed to get on the scoresheet on a couple of occasions, including the late equaliser against Derby County.

Manager Blackwell believes Saturday's performance from the Jamaican was his best yet, and that he will only improve, as more games come his way.

'Saturday was by far Lee's best game, it is the first time we've seem him play three full games on the bounce and that has been a benefit.

'Your timing comes with match fitness and you get better performances - that's what we are hoping for from all.'

With Nick Montgomery one of the few certainties in the Blades starting eleven, it's been hard to find anybody to complement him, and despite some impressive performances from James Harper, it appears Williamson could be the ideal partner for Monty in the middle.

With a number of poor acqisitions over the Summer, Ryan France, Glen Little and Kyel Reid who have failed to have any impact on the side whatsoever, Williamson has slipped under the radar and finally been able to put himself into the spotlight.

Despite Harper's signing being completed as part of the deal that saw Brian Howard join Reading, it's thought that Williamson was the real replacement for the former Barnsley man, and with an eye for goal, a good passing range and a tireless work ethic, there's no reason that the 27 year old can't be a success at Bramall Lane.
