'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gary Just Says Nay

Sheffield United's Gary Naysmith has rejected the offer of a new contract to join League 1 side Huddersfield Town.

Naysmith, who returned at the end of the season to complete the final two games, was expected a new deal after his original three year contract ran out.

The former Everton man knew of the impending pay cut, and following lengthy talks, decided enough was enough, and decided to head West to the Galpharm Stadium, to bolster Lee Clark's promotion chasing squad.

Town manager Clark said: 'Gary is a massive signing - we have worked very hard to get him.

'He has got real experience at the very highest level, but the big thing for me is that from the very first day I met him you can tell he still has unbelievable desire and ambition.'

mighty huddersfield xD... i hope he turns out to be a quality signing for us
Terrier24
unbelievable!! did we want him or didn't we? thats the big question. This also proves that the wages that so may people supposed he was getting paid clearly wasn't no where near. huddersfield couldn't afford to pay any more than 5k a week so at best i would imagine that he was on 10k a week when he came to the lane and we have offered him new reduced terms on 5k a week. another player who has pulled good money out of the club without kicking a ******** ball all season!! it just gets worse and worse.
bladesforlife1889
We wanted him off the wage bill. Huddersfield offered a 2 yr contract with a guarantee that he will play every week, United offered a one year deal. Thats another 750k+ off the bottom line, his Premiership contract was more like 15k a week BFL. Just Billy and Hendo (14k) to get rid of and it will fund 5 incoming - so my informant tells me!
FloridaBlade1
veyr true glou, those two are our last top earners with morgs and evans not too far behind...thats what ive been told also from a good contact - awful season coming up lads
gleadlessblade
be right im sure jordan stewart will save the left back role for us!!!! sad day when any team in the league below can offer better contracts than we can...as glou says the club didnt really want him - in the same way that they wanted morgs quinn andmonts on the cheap but knew eventually that they needed players....ive no idea how we ended up like this - i know we paid some massive wages when NW took us up on players taht barely played (akinbiyi, short, flitcroft, dyer, lucketti, horsfield just off top of my head and then sun ji, beattie, hendrie, naysmith etc) but surely after all the sales we must be about even! Unless weve been paying these players off or after they have left....and do they really think signing bogdanovic is ok!
gleadlessblade
Boggy has been signed by the sponsors. I just hope the Ward info is wrong. If Hendo goes NO ONE on this site should complain, having spent all last season slagging him off!
FloridaBlade1
Birch's statement on the Naysmith transfer on the club site clarifies things beautifully, we are all so much wiser now! doh. His written communication is about as good as his verbal skills. If ever a bloke needed a course in interpersonal skill, it him.
FloridaBlade1
Like your in/out section Sheps - it clearly establishes what a shambles we seem to be in - starting to wonder if we will have 11 names to pencil in on the first day of next season!
harrogateblade
I think there will be a few spare seats on the plane to Malta at this rate. PLEASE Blackwell, get Kyle Bartley back - I dont care if its on loan - for the season. Morgs is the only centre half we have, play Bartley alongside Morgs from the start and let the two build a partnership early doors.
FloridaBlade1
Florida - I've heard similar stories from various sources. Only trouble is if (when) we sell Henderson and Sharp that will leave us with only 11 players (inc Bog)with any decent first team experience (ignore whether they are any good or not). Aother 5 players means we will have just 16 in our squad. Last season's experience shows we need a significantly bigger squad to have any chance of reaching the play-offs
bucksblade
bucks, i dont think play offs are on the minds of the club at the minute...i think they are really aiming for a mid table finish and to slowly build a team/sqaud up to challenge maybe the season after next or the one after that - in a similar way that Warnock had to build....with everythings thats gone off (rightly or wrongly doesnt matter at the minute) theres not much chance of a utd team challenging the top six next season, much like there wasnt the season just gone
gleadlessblade
Dead right Gleadless, thats exactly what is happening. It took NW 6 seasons, though he did start with a worse set of players and even less money. I think it will take for or five seasons. We all need to adjust our expectations wheather we agree or not with what is happening. I hope that we can get two or three key signings that the team can be built around - in addition to the important retentions of Morgan & Monty - A young quick central defender would be my first priority, Bartley on a season loan for preference, I would like to see Connolly back permanently, and I believe Toni Kallio would do a good job at left back, though I accept that that might not go down too well with some of you. Right now the signing of a solid keeper is vital, Simmo would be a player I would like to see signed quickly, but wages might be a problem.
FloridaBlade1
Does anyone else find James Shieds articles in the Star difficult to read? Read the one about Kenny? Phew.
FloridaBlade1
Florida?Gleadless - regretably I have to agree.................. but it could have been oh so different. What a c*ck up
bucksblade
connelly is meant to be off to leeds
gleadlessblade
So here's another player who says one thing and does completely the opposite. What's all that about "It didn't feel right to stay with Blades"? Having said numerous times that he understood that he could not remain on Premiership wages, and indicating that he wanted to stay, all of a sudden it doesnt feel right. We all understand that the majority of players will want to move for improved contracts, who can blame them, but dont treat the fans like mugs, saying one thing and doing another.
FloridaBlade1
Do you know lads now we've signed Ertl, I've lost interest in Naysmith - I'm sure playing in League 1 will do his international career no end of good! Glad to see him off the wage bill. Lets all move on.
harrogateblade
Gary who?
