Blades Hero Gives Speed Backing

Sheffield United legend Brian Deane believes Gary Speed will be a success at Sheffield United.

Deane, who played alongside the Welshman for Leeds United told Yorkshire Radio of his admiration for his former teammate.

'He was a fine professional, well liked and very intelligent.'

'Speedo has played all of his life in the top division and people respect him. So I think it is a good appointment. He will bring some fresh ideas and it is a win situation for the club.'

It's expected that Speed's appointment will be confirmed at a news conference called for this afternoon at Bramall Lane.

Bloody hell!!! I've just read on the official site that Sam Ellis is staying on at the Lane :( If it's announced that he's the new manager instead of Speed I'm gonna snap my season ticket in half!!!

They announced it on Radio Sheffield and it said Ellis had left on the previous article on here Kopblade. I got my hopes up only to see them dashed! :( I read Warnock's comments about Paddy on the QPR site. He said we hadn't offered him a new deal at the end of last season and we were gonna talk to him about it at Xmas and then QPR came in for him and we offered him a 3 year deal staright away. If that's true then I stand by my view that he's a greedy judas b******d!!!
