'If It's Football, It's Vital'

VIDEO: Speed's appointment press conference

Trevor Birch and Gary Speed share their thoughts in a press conference following his appointment as the new Sheffield United manager.

Prior to his speaking chairman Birch confirmed the former Blades midfielder had been appointed in the view to a long-term succession to Kevin Blackwell on a 3-year contract with Speed wanting Blackwell's former assistant Sam Ellis to stay on, although he would bring in a coach of his own as well.

Birch shared some views on Blackwell's departure and also why Speed was appointed.

Speed himself spoke about his delight at being given the job with a great club like Sheffield United, although he wishes it had come in better circumstances than having to be Blackwell's successor and thanked him for all that he did for the club and him personally.

All this, and more including Speed and Birch's views on the future and various questions fielded are answered, in a video that is well worth watching...
