Jagielka wants win to thank Warnock

Midfield maestro Phil Jagielka wants to thank gaffer Neil Warnock with a derby win this weekend.

The versatile young star has shone once again this season in midfield and, most recently, defence and also has 5 goals to his name. He was delighted with the Blades boss' decision to turn down a move to Portsmouth in favour of staying with United, and says he would like nothing more than to say thank you, with a derby win for him.

'The gaffer and I have certainly spoken a lot over the past few months. Personally speaking it's brilliant news that he's still here. It's hard to refuse good offers like the gaffer received this week; he was between a rock and a hard place. He'd told me all about being sacked by Notts County a year after he rejected Chelsea and we were totally unsure as to what he would do.' Jagielka told The Guardian.

He continued: 'With the financial gain on offer and the uncertainty that remains for him here [Warnock has yet to be offered a new contract] you couldn't have blamed Neil for going to Portsmouth, in fact it was difficult for him not to leave. But, thankfully, his heart ruled his head.

'His dream has always been to win promotion here and all the boys now know we just have to get into the Premiership and earn him a nice new deal. The gaffer has put his trust in us and I can't think of a better way to thank him than by beating Wednesday.'
