SUFC Long in provisional England squad

Young Sheffield United goalkeeper George Long has been included in the provisional England under-20 squad for the World Cup finals in Turkey this summer.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season at United and he has been included in the provisional 35-man squad named by manager Peter Taylor.

Taylor will name his final 21-man squad on June 7th and Long is one of four goalkeepers named in the provisional squad.

England face Iraq on June 23rd, Chile on June 26th and Egypt on June 29th in their group games in a tournament that runs from June 21st to 13th July.

Long was an ever-present in the squad from October following an injury to regular number one Mark Howard.

He made 44 appearances in all competitions this season and he won a number of awards on the way.

He picked up the League One Player of the Month in October and followed that up with the Football League Player of the Month in February. At the end of the season, Long picked up the Young Player of the Year and the Achievement of the season award at the clubs end of season awards.

All the plaudits and recognition he is getting as me worried that clubs in higher divisions might start sniffing.
