Almost 5,000 miles on the road for Blades fans

Sheffield United fans face almost 5,000 miles on the road next season if travelling to all 23 away games from Bramall Lane.

With figures taken from AA route planner, leaving Bramall Lane, travelling to the away ground and back is a grand total of 4993 miles up and down the motorways in wind, rain and snow.

Rotherham is the local derby next season. Just 7.4 miles separate Bramall Lane and the New York City Stadium.

United have just five games with an overall travelling distance of under 100 miles.

The longest trip of the season is to Sussex to face Crawley Town, a round trip of 407.8 miles.

Gillingham in Kent is also a round trip of just over 400 miles.

United have two trips to Yorkshire (Rotherham and Bradford) and four trips to the North West (Tranmere, Oldham, Preston and Carlisle). Every other trip for United is south of Sheffield.

Supporters can start planning their trips for next season when the fixtures are announced on Wednesday June 19th (9am).

This assumes all fans start from BDTBL. Many of us exiles start from much further afield, though some in the south are a bit closer. Add to that every home game is a 300 mile round trip and me and son will travel around 11500 over the season following SUFC. Crazy? definitely, but its a habit thats hard to break.

Crawley on a Tuesday night!

I thought you might say something gloucblade. Obviously I had to work it out on where the vast majority would be travelling from. I bet you hope it is not Carlisle on a Tuesday night.
S2 Blades
Yes, done Blackpool on a Tuesday night - thats a sod of a journey from Gloucester, going up there on a weekday, as we have to use the M5 /M6 for a large chunk of the journey, return can be as much as an hour quicker as the traffic has gone. Crawley on a Tuesday wouldnt be the worst trip for us. The real killer is Hartlepool on a weeknight......but we have done it! I also remember doing Newcastle Utd on a midweek game (remember those days!) Now thats a REAL killer. Accident on the A1, M5 closed southbound for roadworks, got in bed at about 4am.
