SUFC Appleton odds on to land United job

Michael Appleton is the latest name to lead the betting market for the vacant managerial post at Sheffield United.

The former Portsmouth, Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers boss is 4/7 favourite for the job.

Appleton, who managed all three of the above clubs during last season, recently missed out on the vacant mangers job at Doncaster Rovers.

The former Manchester United midfielder resigned from Portsmouth to take over at Blackpool last November but after just two months at Bloomfield Road he was on the move again when he quit Blackpool to join Blackburn Rovers.

He was in charge at Ewood Park for just two months before being sacked by Rovers, this despite leading the club to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, which included knocking Arsenal out at the Emirates.

Former United defender Robert Page, who was odds on favourite for the job over the weekend, is now 5/1 second favourite.

Neil Warnock, who led the club to the Premier League just seven years ago, is now 10/1third favourite.

I thought he did a good job at Portsmouth who were in an unwinnable position with the club in its predicament. He wasn't at Blackpool long enough but I thought he was very harshly done by at Blackburn. Amazing how the betting is changing so quickly.
