SUFC Blackman banned for incident at Scunthorpe

The FA has finally punished former Sheffield United player Nick Blackman, nine months after an incident involving him and a steward at Scunthorpe United.

Blackman, who left Bramall Lane to join then Premier League side Reading in January has been given a one-match suspension by the FA despite strongly contesting the charge.

The 23-year-old was charged after getting involved with a steward who was ejecting a blades fan following the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Glanford Park.

Neil Collins late equaliser sparked wild celebrations in the away end at Glanford Park with the blades down to nine-men after Mike Doyle and Ryan Flynn were both sent off.

Blackman scored 14 goals in 33 appearances for United last season before joining Reading in the first week of the January transfer window.

He made 13 appearances in the Premier League but he failed to open his scoring account as Reading were relegated back to the championship.

His one match suspension will see Blackman miss Reading`s first game of the season against Ipswich Town.

Doubt he would be playing anyway. He should never have left.
