SUFC Clough a relieved man after cup progress

Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough said he was a relieved man after knocking non-league highfliers Cambridge United out of the FA Cup.

The game had the hallmarks of a cup upset, Cambridge flying high at the top of the Conference whilst Sheffield United have been having a troubled season in League One.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Clough said, "We are relieved to get through because we know what a good side Cambridge are, they are not on the top of the league for nothing and they caused us problems.

"The first goal was important, we quietened the crowd and dampened the enthusiasm of the players and it was important we got to half time without conceding. We then scored the second goal and that was the killer goal."

Sheffield United took the initiative as early as the twelfth minute when Jose Baxter fired home from inside the area.

Goalkeeper George Long had to be at his best on a couple of occasions including once soon after the first goal when he came out well to deny Cunnington when through on goal.

The blades made the tie safe in the opening fifteen minutes of the second half when Jamie Murphy cut in from the left and fired low past Maxwell in the Cambridge goal.

He obviously did his homework well on Cambridge. It was a good professional performance.
