SUFC Clough in talks about Coady with Liverpool

Nigel Clough gave an update on loan players Simon Lappin and Conor Coady following the defeat at Walsall.

Liverpool midfielder Coady is set to return to Anfield after the trip to Aston Villa in the FA Cup this weekend and Clough says he is waiting for the Premier League club to get back to him having asked them to extend his loan.

Speaking on BBC Radio Sheffield, Clough said, "We are waiting for them to come back to us. We have put in a request to Liverpool for them to extend it, so we are waiting for a response."

Coady has made 22 appearances for United since arriving at Bramall Lane in the summer.

Lappin was an unused substitute for United in the defeat at Walsall and Clough admits it is difficult to keep the Cardiff City defender, who wants regular first team football. "Simon is a bit more difficult. Because he is an emergency loan, he is almost up to his maximum amount of days. If he were to stay, it would have to be until the end of the season. He wants to play regularly and he hasn`t played the last few games, so it might be more difficult," continued Clough.

Lappin arrived at Bramall Lane in October on an emergency loan deal and he has made 12 appearances for the side since his arrival.

The 30-year-old is now set to return to Cardiff with his loan deal expiring after the Walsall game.

Coady would be a good signing again. Not to bothered about Lappin.
