Evans - I Can Achieve Goals At United

Ched Evans' return to Sheffield United, confirmed earlier this week when he signed a three year deal returning to Bramall Lane from Chesterfield, has left the Welsh striker delighted.

Rumours of a United return first surfaced towards the end of last month and proved true when his re-signing for the Blades, on an undisclosed amount from relegated League 1 rivals Chesterfield, was officially announced on Monday.

On his return Evans told the Official Website: 'I still feel I have plenty to prove in football both at club and international level. I believe I can achieve those goals at United, playing in front of the terrific fans whose support I have always appreciated.'

Chesterfield gave Evans his chance, coming following his release from prison having been sentenced to five years in prison for the rape of a 19 year old woman - a conviction quashed with Evans found not guilty upon a re-trail.

Thanking the Spireites, Evans continued: 'I am very grateful to Chesterfield, the board and football management for giving me an opportunity to return to the game. It is just disappointing that it has come in a season which has seen the club suffer relegation. I would like to thank the Chesterfield fans who made me feel so welcome.'

Evans, 28, scored seven goals in 29 games for Chesterfield, the Welsh international bagged 48 goals in 113 games during his previous spell, which included 35 in his final season at Bramall Lane last time round.

Chris Wilder added: 'The signing is just one element of the plans we have drawn up for next season. We have done our homework on the player. We pride ourselves on team spirit - as the fans have seen this season - and plan to bring in players who can be part of that. Ched comes to us with targets to achieve along the way. With a full pre-season with us, we believe he can provide us with options up front and score goals.'
