Doubtful Everton's Jagielka Will Return - Wilder

Having already completed a number of deals ahead of Sheffield United's Championship return, Chris Wilder is continually looking to get more contracts signed, including his own extended one at Bramall Lane, but he's cast doubts on a Phil Jagielka return.

Reportedly interesting United, Wilder played down rumours of any talks with the former Everton and England captain but would be 'delighted' if he wanted to return. However, he doesn't see this as too likely as he believes Jagielka will still feel he's got a couple of years Premier League football in him.

He told Sky Sports: 'I've not spoken to Phil. He's gone from here to have a wonderful career and if we wants to come back and play here for a couple of years we'd be delighted. But I'm sure he'll think he's still got life at the top. He's a Premier League player and captained his country.'

Jagielka's Everton future is in doubt so actually securing him probably wouldn't be the issue but covering his wages would.

United's more realistic arrivals are Charlton and Southend midfielders Ricky Holmes and Ryan Leonard, respectively.

Interest in both is well documented and Wilder, who had also been commenting about his impending signing of a new deal, remains hopeful of securing deals to bring the League One pair into the Championship with United.

Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield: 'I think it's common knowledge we have bids out for Ricky and Ryan, but we understand that these deals don't always get completed. Some players you get in quickly and it's easy and some take a bit of time. You can reach a point where you have to move on. We want players in quickly but sometimes you have to be patient. Some of the best business we did last year was in August.'
