Chesterfield Loan For Midfielder Reed
Louis Reed isn't going to join Sheffield United in the Championship. Well, not this season anyway.
United boss Chris Wilder has decided Reed's development would be better served during a season-long loan at Chesterfield.
Explaining the move on the Official Website, Wilder said Chesterfield will be the right place for him to 'kickstart' his career and United will keep an eye on his development.
'I feel that Lou needs to go out and play first-team football to kickstart his career. Chesterfield, under Gary, is a good place for him to go and get games under his belt. We will monitor him, like we do all of our loaned players and hopefully he benefits from the switch.'
Reed, 19, became United's youngest ever player when he made his debut at just 16, he's gone on to make 59 appearances in total, but was limited to just one appearance under Wilder last season.
The midfielder will now head out to Portugal to join up with his new Chesterfield teammates, becoming the Spireites' 10th summer signing.
United's David Brooks was previously expected to undergo a loan at the Proact Stadium this season before an apparent change of heart from the Blades, which didn't go down to well at Chesterfield - maybe this will smooth things over?
