Keep the points coming!
I was back on the Kop again this afternoon for the visit of Hull City. After the midweek defeat to QPR with a weird goal I thought it might have knocked us a bit but it appears CW has the lads back on track.
The first half was good, both teams were decent from the off in my opinion, and Hull certainly looked like they had done their homework on us with decent attacking play. We went behind to a small error and a good strike, which I don`t think we deserved to be honest. We had good chances on goal during the first half but couldn`t find our way past their keeper. He was the guy that was keeping them in it most of this afternoon during the opening exchanges. How he pulled off some of those saves was unbelievable.
Obviously CW had a "chat" with the team at the interval and the lads came out straight on the front foot. We had the game under wraps in the second half, Clarke netted four good goals to get us back in the lead and take all the points to put us second in the League. I was getting nervous on the Kop until we took a 2-1 lead though. Hull made early changes but Wilder was keeping the faith with the lads out on the pitch until later on.
It was good seeing our style of play getting rewards again though, O`Connell and Stevens kept getting forward and Jack looks hungry for goals as well, he had a good strike from outside the area tipped over the bar. I think a lot has to be said for Basham though, he made a couple of errors today but you have to admire how he approaches the game. He`s a midfielder by trade, has played centre-back for us and today was out on the wing-back position. He`s a good utility player for us, reminds me somewhat of a game a few seasons ago when Richard Cresswell went in defence from being up front after "a few" sendings off!
It was also nice to see Ched Evans walk around the front of the Kop on his way to the John Street Stand taking time to shake hands with the fans and get some photos in. It was commented on where I sit on the Kop on how good it was for him to do that.
We`ve got a break now with the internationals on, Burton away is the next match. I like their ground, decent for parking etc, just hope that Brayford does us a favour when we visit there!
Anyway, I had some bad news the other day. I have to go back to sea a month early as we are short of people in my trade, so that means I`ve only the Fulham and Birmingham games to go before I depart. Gutted is an understatement as I was hoping to be still home for the derby match in January, and hoping to see more of my lad`s season with Chesterfield Junior Blues U16s. I suppose my lad will enjoy the games without me! Not to worry - my fingers will be crossed from overseas and I`ll be watching the games on British Forces TV when they are on, plus I`ll still be doing my write ups.
Anyhow, what a result from a brilliant team. Let`s keep this dream alive and push on!
