Reactions - Sheffield Utd v Bristol City (9/12/17)

Following last night's clash between Sheffield United and Bristol City, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Sheffield United hosted Bristol City at Bramall Lane for a 7.45pm kick off on Friday December 8, with the visitors taking a two one victory on the night.

Bristol City took the lead twice through Jamie Paterson and a late Aden Flint goal in stoppage time, with United almost earning a point with Leon Clarke's effort.

United were reduced to ten men in the game with John Fleck being shown a straight red card for a two footed challenge on Korey Smith. United will certainly think they deserved more having hit the woodwork three times in the first half.

Sheff Utd:

Moore, Basham (Carruthers 86), Stearman, O'Connell, Baldock, Lundstram, Duffy (Brooks 77), Fleck, Stevens, Clarke, Sharp (Donaldson 80).

Wright, Carter-Vickers, Lafferty, Blackman.

Bristol City:

Fielding, Wright, Flint, Baker, Bryan, Eliasson (Djuric 45), Brownhill, Pack (Leko 76), Paterson, Smith (Taylor 62), Reid.

Steele, Woodrow, Magnusson, Vyner.

Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee David Coote blew the final whistle, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder explained.

'It's a cruel game at times. I didn't think we deserved the defeat. I thought we did more than enough to win against a really good side that's going well. We showed everybody in this division that we're a decent side when we play as I know we can and we're a match for anyone. Things aren't really going for us but we've just got to keep going. Sometimes fortune doesn't favour the brave.'

As for the sending off, he added.

'The game has gone if you can't tackle like that now. That was just a proper tackle and I don't think it deserves a red card.'

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson in his comparitive interview explained.

'It was a great win, first and foremost, and I'm delighted with the points. I thought Sheffield United were outstanding and they were certainly the better side for the first 55 to 60 minutes. I had to change the shape three times and that was due to Sheffield United's relentless quality. My boys stuck in. It was about dealing with the atmosphere and dealing with the quality. We got a bit of fortune with the sending-off. It probably was a sending-off and once they went down to 10 men, I thought we controlled the game.'
