Wilder On Transfers - Stevens On Table

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has spoken of his delight at the clubs' transfer business so far this month and Enda Stevens has spoken about our position in the Championship table.

Beginning with the gaffer, he told the Official Site that he could've have asked for more from the club when it came to the backing he's received this month because he's snared his targets in the shape of Ryan Leonard, Lee Evans, Ricky Holmes and James Wilson on loan.

We did of course lose Cameron Carter-Vickors back to Tottenham Hotspur and there are others available for loan, but in terms of CCR Wilder said the early recall was designed in the best interests of the player.

'We've got a fantastic relationship with Spurs and I've always said I will be up front and honest with parent clubs. Cam has been a 19-year-old who has done outstandingly well for us, he's had rocky moments, which is the norm for a young player, but with the form of Chris Basham and the signing of Ryan Leonard, I struggle to see Cam getting in on a regular basis and it is not fair to stockpile players.'

Having given the youngster 18 games in the first half of the year, Wilder's openness to let Spurs know it might be in his and their best interests to enable the recall and get him back out somewhere else for the second half of the campaign as he slips down our pecking order is certainly not going to harm the relationship moving forward.

'We've worked tirelessly to get players in - the business we have done can't have gone any better. Big credit needs to go to Paul Mitchell head of recruitment and Carl Shieber head of football admin. We are playing in a competitive environment, we need to be flexible and are creating balance and competition in the squad. We are now looking at a squad with depth and balance.'

As for Enda Stevens, he was also briefly in front of club press this week and with the Steel City derby seeing us eek back into the Play Off spots in the table, he acknowledged results of late hadn't been great but every side has a dip and we remain in and amongst things, so confidence should be taken from that.

'Our results of late haven't been what we would have hoped, but we could have won a few of them. There's been a degree of consistency in our performances, despite the results. Last week it wasn't happening in the final third but we still moved up a place and we're in the play-offs. The table doesn't like, we now need to just focus and kick on.'
