Promotion Hopes Are In Our Hands

Promotion Hopes Are In Our Hands

Manager Chris Wilder and skipper Billy Sharp have been giving more thoughts on Sheffield United's victory over Leeds United last weekend.

A brace from Sharp gave us the two one victory at Bramall Lane and with 15 games remaining in the Championship season, Wilder is confident that Play Off hopes remain in our hands and he's determined we do everything we can to secure one of those spots.

Speaking to the Official Site earlier this afternoon, he explained.

'We've got a strong group, they want to do well and they know how to win, that's the biggest thing. I believe we were due a win, especially at home. Our attitude was first-class, the play wasn't free flowing, but the result is all that anyone was bothered about. It's in our hands, the answers lie with us and if we outwork and outbattle the opposition we will have a fantastic opportunity of winning games between now and the end of the season.'

With changes to the line up, Wilder went on to say he was delighted with the options and competition available to him and he knows he can trust whoever he selects to go in and do the job.

'We went back to the old guard I suppose and both Billy and Duffy looked really sharp. It's terrific that we've got a strong squad now, it gives us options and we're pleased to have David Brooks back training with the main group again. We've also got to try and integrate the new players into the squad, ideally we'd have done that in the summer, but we had to wait until January to get them in and it will take a bit of time.'

Having got the goals on the day, Sharp was also a firm fixture in front of the press over the past few days but he was quick to pass credit onto the rest of the side with him taking the headlines.

'We'd been working in training on getting crosses in and one of the last things the Gaffer said was about hanging balls up to the back stick. Duffs has done that, it's got a deflection and I've seen it loop up, I've made a good contact with it and I was delighted to see it hit the back of the net. I'm happier for the boys, we've been working hard without getting the results we've deserved recently.'

He added.

'After Wolves we had to pick ourselves up and we did, we'd been good in training and I'm delighted we've bounced back with a victory. We were dangerous first-half and had a lot of chances. The second-half we started slowly, they scored and looked the better side, but we have to grind these results out and thankfully we managed to pull each other through on the pitch.'
