Blades Blunt Blackwell's Bury

Sheffield United are just three points off the automatic promotion places after their second away win in four days moved them to within three points of the automatic promotion places.

A goal in each half from Jonathan Forte and Jamie Murphy secured a 2-0 win at Gigg Lane against Bury.

The game saw former Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell come up against his former club for the first time since being sacked in August 2010.

Blackwell took over the reins at struggling Bury in September, with the side at the foot of the League One table.

Bury came into the game in good form having taken four points off promotion chasing Doncaster Rovers and Brentford in their last two games and with United having won for the first time in 2013 at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday, Blackwell must have fancied his chances against his former club.

It was not to be though as Forte and Murphy, who both signed in the January transfer window, secured the points for United.

Forte scored the opener on 38 minutes when he fired past Trevor Carson from the edge of the area and Murphy gave United breathing space on the hour when he scored from a tight angle.

The win for United sees them move up one place to fifth in the table and they will now prepare for a clash with Colchester United at Bramall Lane on Saturday before facing a tough task at Bournemouth the following Saturday, who moved to the top of League One with their victory at Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night.
