Blades down ten-men Vale

Sheffield United
2 - 1
Port Vale

Bramall Lane

19/10/13 3pm

Attendance: 18,545

Sheffield United won for the first time in League One since the opening day of the season as they were made to work hard against ten-men Port Vale.

Vale were forced to play for 70 minutes with just ten-men after Daniel Jones picked up two yellow cards in the space of five minutes.

The blades were already ahead by the time Jones had been given his marching orders. Neil Collins headed United ahead when his effort sneaked in off a post.

After dominating the first half, it looked like being another one of those days for the blades when Vale`s Adam Yates cross deep into first half stoppage time found the top corner of the net.

Rather than let it knock their confidence the blades continued to dominate in the second half but it wasn`t until fifteen minutes from the end that they found the winner. Good work by Ryan Flynn on the right found Mike Doyle in the middle who fired his left foot shot into the corner of the net to relieve the tension around Bramall Lane.

There were obvious nerves around in the final ten-minutes but blades saw out the game to record a rare win this season.

The win lifts United of the bottom of League One and out of the relegation places as caretaker boss Chris Morgan and his players enjoyed the three points.
