Sheffield Utd 3-0 Plymouth Argyle
Sheffield United proved too strong for their league 2 opponents Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon as second half goals were enough to secure our place in the third round.
A couple of penalties, after Plymouth had missed an earlier one so they literally 'paid the penalty', got us on the way to a 3-0 win at Bramall Lane.
We controlled much of the first half, with Jose Baxter our main threat as he had three good chances, one was saved by Plymouth 'keeper Luke McCormick, one was blocked by the Plymouth defence and the other he headed wide of the target.
McCormack also denied Ryan Flynn and Michael Doyle drove wide with Plymouth going close through Dominic Blizzard, who was just wide and Lewis Allesandra, who put a freekick narrowly over in a goalless first half.
Plymouth had a great chance to take the lead minutes into the second half when Jay McEveley's fouled Alessandra in the box to give the visitors a penalty. Plymouth's top goalscorer Reuben Reid stepped up but blasted well over.
Less than 10-minutes later we got a penalty of our own when Marc McNulty was fouled by Ben Purrington, giving Baxter the chance from the spot. Baxter (55) didn't make any mistake and just past the hour he had another chance from the spot when Peter Hartley fouled Jamie Murphy for the third penalty of the game. Baxter (62) again scored to give us some breathing space.
Florent Cuvelier's cross to the near post was finished off by McNulty (90) in the last minute to round off our three-nil win and book our place in the third round.
