Young Blade gets England Call

Young Blade gets England Call
Sheffield United's in-form Academy striker Jordan Slew has been called up to the England Under-19 squad to replace Southampton hot shot Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Slew, who has been prolific for the Blades' Under 18 team this season could feature in the game at Chesterfield's b2net stadium next week.

The striker has made several appearances from the bench for United, leaving many crying out for him to be given a more extended opportunity.

What we must remember is, that this can often be a publicity move by the FA, including a local based player in the squad to generate interest from nearby fans who may have previously passed up the opportunity to go.

Regardless, it will give Slew an opportunity show Blades boss Micky Adams that he is capable of doing it at a higher level, as he pushes for a place in the Blades first-team more frequently.

I understand what you say about the FA including a local player as PR but the fixture was sold out even before Slew was on the standby list so it looks like his inclusion is mostly, if not entirely, on merit. Good luck to the lad!

Something good at a time when all is doom and gloom - unless you happen to be BFL who has made negativity into an art form - you must have a pretty depressing life BFL!

You do make a fair point sometimes bfl and this is one of them, if he does get into the first team and performs well we all know he will be sold especially if we go down, which looks as what will be happening shortly On the other hand well done to the lad he's been unlucky not to get a run in the first team before now.

By the way i get really excited when i glance across to the league table and think we have 2 games in hand over Palace, and reality hits and we actually dont. Could it be changed as im currently in the, win our games in hand and were out of the drop zone mindset
