Nick Montgomery

Nick Montgomery
In a season where the Blades have struggled, fight has often been the key for a vital point here and there, and that's exactly what you get from Montgomery.

Unfortunately for the Leeds born, reigning player of the season, Montgomery has struggled with niggling injuries throughout the campaign, but when he has been in the side has shown what we've come to expect of him over the years.

Despite this, the midfielder did still manage over 30 league appearances, captaining the side following the injury to Chris Morgan. This relegation will hit the midfielder harder than most in the squad as the longest serving player at the club.

This could soon come to an end as the Blades continue cost-cutting. Boyhood club Leeds United appears the most likely, but don't be too surprised if Neil Warnock comes knocking.

Season highlight: Performing admirably as stand-in captain in Chris Moran's absence.

Season lowlight: Relegation will be tough for "Monty."

End of season grade: B

I will be sorry to see him go, if he does as expected, but cant agree with you Sheps that he performed well as skipper. I dont believe he is a natural leader, and I dont believe he demonstrated that on the field. He always gives 100 percent, no question, and for that I respect and admire him.
